Amelioration of acidic soil using fly Ash for Mine Revegetation in Post-Mining Land

چکیده

Abstract This paper described the use of fly ash for soil amelioration acidic soils to promote plant growth. In mining sites, acid sulfate soils/rocks, which contain sulfide minerals (e.g. pyrite FeS 2 ), have appeared as a result overburden excavation. The excessively condition inhibits growth due dissolution harmful elements, such Al, Fe, and Mn. Fly ash, an alkaline byproduct coal combustion generated in thermal power plants is expected be adopted ameliorate soils. However, mixing ratio must considered because excessive addition can negative impact on its physical/chemical properties. pot trials using Acacia mangium demonstrate evolution with 5%–10% into soil. When has high potential metal dissolution, ions leached from are large, making it difficult improve osmotic ionic stress. work suggests that effects

Integrated acid mine drainage management using fly ash.

Fly Ash (FA) from a power station in South Africa was investigated to neutralise and remove contaminants from Acid Mine Drainage (AMD). After this primary treatment the insoluble FA residue namely solid residue (SR) was investigated as a suitable mine backfill material by means of strength testing. Moreover, SR was used to synthesise zeolite-P using a two-step synthesis procedure. Furthermore, ...

Land Reclamation Natural Revegetation of 15 Abandoned Mine Land Sites in West Virginia

Fifteen AML sites ranging in age from 13 to 35 yr in Northern West Virginia were selected from three surface-mined coal beds (Pittsburgh, Freeport, and Kittanning) to evaluate plant invasion and establishment on disturbed sites. Three 10 m by 10 m plots were randomly located on each site, and cover, density, and stem diameter of all woody plant species were measured. Herbaceous and plant litter...

An intelligent decision support system for revegetation and reclamation of land contaminated from coal mine wastes

Abandoned coal mine wastes can result in severe pollution and have aesthetic impact on the local environment. A range of reclamation techniques is available for substrate but only through the use of vegetation to stabilize coal mine wastes can complete long-term rehabilitation be achieved. Experimentation has been undertaken at coal mine sites to attempt to elucidate and overcome limitations to...

Amelioration of Degraded Mine Soil for Reclamation Purposes Using an Industrial Byproduct and an Organic Waste

The South African mining industry has been the backbone of the country’s economy for much of the past century. Mining has, however, often caused the degradation of productive soils. The amendment of these soils is often very expensive and often not sustainable. The University of Pretoria in cooperation with Eskom TSI, has over the past seven years conducted a series of trials. These trials have...

Stabilization/solidification of Iron Ore Mine Tailings Using Cement, Lime and Fly Ash

Current research emphasis is more on the utilization of materials that are considered as waste. Tailings and fly ash are major category of industrial wastes, whose disposal is problematic from environmental point of view. In this present research, Industrial byproducts, namely, lime (CaO) and class F type fly ash have been used as candidate materials along with the partial addition of ordinary ...
